Imagine A Day Without Water

Since 2015, the US Water Alliance has held its annual Imagine A Day Without Water campaign.

This year, the event will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2018.

According to Klaus Reichardt, CEO and Founder of Waterless CO., Inc. manufacturers of no-water urinals, the Imagine A Day Without Water campaign is designed to get people thinking, "what it would be like to go even a day without water.  It can also prove very valuable for children, helping them learn, observe, and realize just how important water is in their lives."

Reichardt adds that today about 900 million people around the world do not have access to safe water. Further, for a large percentage of these people, there is no certainty that they will have any water – safe or unsafe - on any given day.

When the Imagine A Day Without Water campaign began in 2015, 185 organizations in the US signed up to participate. Most of these were water-related organizations.

However, last year, more than 300 organizations participated.  This time, many of the participants were US manufacturers, real estate associations, coffee manufacturers and retailers, city councils, engineering firms, hotels and restaurants, even health organizations.

It is anticipated that the 2018 events will include more than 750 organizations.

"This reflects the growing concerns we have about water availability in the US," says Reichardt.

"Each year, more and more people realize that water is not in unlimited supply, and this is often reflected in the fact that water bills keep rising every year around the country."

In the past, some organizations have participated in the Imagine A Day Without Water campaign by encouraging mayors, city councils, and governors to issue proclamations, encouraging businesses and citizens to grasp just what it might be like to have to go without water for a day.

Additionally, some local and nationwide coffee shops have created coffee sleeves, reminding people that every cup of coffee starts with freshwater.
