FAQ’s

This is my first time hearing of a Waterless urinal. I can’t believe it! Waterless Co. is the pioneer and originator of this most water and maintenance conserving fixture. Waterless has been in business since 1991 and are family owned. For the first 10 years Waterless Co. was the sole manufacturer of these units. Often imitated but never duplicated, we still offer the most simple and most cost effective system on the world market.

Why do they not smell? Simply because there is no mixing of water and urine. Flushed urinals, which have the familiar ammonia smell, provide a chemical reaction between the urine and the water in the urinal, which generates the familiar ammonia smell. Waterless urinals do not smell since no water and urine is mingled plus our BlueSeal® in the trap makes a complete seal.

I hear they are very expensive to operate? Waterless touch-free urinals are the most cost effective system on the market. Our EcoTrap® retails for $8.25 ea., and is changed out about 2 to 4 times a year. The competitor’s products are more expensive and unfortunately we are often equated with them.

Can the liquid be refilled? Yes, our system is set up for refills. As things do happen in restrooms and in case the liquid is flushed out, the EcoTrap® can be refilled by simply adding BlueSeal® without removing it or touching the urinal.

Do I have to open the trap insert to clean it? The EcoTrap® is a one piece unit and does not to be opened to clean, saving time and a messy cleaning. It is a recyclable unit and is simply changed out.

Is the liquid biodegradable and organic? BlueSeal® is fully biodegradable and consists of mineral oils, alcohols and color dye. It is the most effective sealing liquid on the market and its success is proven in that competitor’s customers use it in their units as well. Organic can mean many things and one has to look at the efficiency of the liquid and their cost.

What cleaners can I safely use to clean the urinal? Any commercially available cleaner can be used on our Waterless No-Flush™ Urinals

Will the urinals work in very high traffic and outlying areas? Absolutely. High traffic facilities are where our product actually performs best, with a steady stream of users. The same for low use areas as BlueSeal® does not evaporate.

Where can I get EcoTrap’s and BlueSeal? Our products are available through your local plumbing wholesaler, janitorial wholesaler or through our local dealers and representatives/distributors. Please visit our contact page.

I have a competitor’s urinal which smells. Any help you can give? We are always glad to help as we believe in supporting who is using the technology, no matter which competitor’s urinal you installed. For any urinal which uses a liquid seal, you can use our BlueSeal® liquid as a refill. It will eliminate the urine odor right away plus you can use any cleaning liquids.

Why should I go with a No-Flush™ urinals versus a low flow flush valve urinal? While it may seem psychologically easier to install reduced flush valve urinals, either one gallon or half gallons per flush or pint urinals, the cost of the urinals is usually higher than a No-Flush™ urinal. In addition, while you reduce the flush volume, the amount of urine “donations” remains the same. This in turn creates limestone build up in the waste lines much faster than on a urinal with higher flush volume. Plumbers in high traffic areas can attest to that. This means you not only have water use, but higher maintenance costs for flush valve repairs and higher incidence of urinal removal from the wall to clean out the line from hard deposits.

For waste line clean out, do I need to remove the urinal? Our urinals have a full 2” internal drain line and the urinal does not need to be removed for snaking if needed. Simply remove the EcoTrap®, insert a 4” ABS plastic sleeve into the drain and insert the snake. Resident plumbers love this feature as it saves time and calls.

I have a high vandalism facility. What advantages would No-Flush™ urinals have? Without flush valves and water, over flows and flush valve repairs are a thing of the past. In addition, the EcoTrap® acts as a strainer so no debris can get lodged in the urinal trap way as in flushed urinals.

I have a urinal with a trap inside that has a sock and no liquid in it. It smells. What to do? It most probably is a newer system with a mechanical and expensive trap inside. These units seem to retain urine sediments on top of the sock and smell. Apparently they need to be taken out, cleaned out and reinserted. In addition, please check with your local building/plumbing authorities if these units meet local plumbing code.

Standard white is soo yesterday? What colors are available for architectural projects or fun? We offer a full line of solid colors for both HPC and ceramic units as well as a great granite look for HPC urinals. Should you have any other requirements or thoughts on colored urinals, give us a call to discuss. There are many possibilities, such as your Alma Mater colors, club colors, etc.

I have a non-water using urinal from a renowned manufacturer that does not have a trap insert, and it clogged up. Can you help? Unfortunately not. Units without trap inserts are prone to clog up as they do not have a trap inserts which can retain the urine sediments. The urinal manufacturer proposes to flush out the system consistently as to avoid that clogging. If clogging occurs, the units need to be removed from the wall and cleaned out from both sides.
